Character Bento(Charaben) Class

Are you interested in Japanese Kawaii culture? Then let`s cook and enjoy together! Bento is a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal common in Japanese. Kyaraben (aka Charaben) is short for Character Bento. It is a bento lunch, the food is arranged in elaborate styles to look like popular characters, portraits, plants, animals etc. You will learn some techniques of how to make Charaben in this class. Highlights: 1.Follow along with a detailed demonstration from your friendly online instructor and create bento box artwork! 2.Use a variety of tools and ingredients to build your cute character design. 3.Find out about kyaraben and bento box lunch culture in Japan Inclusions:  A 1.5-hour online cute character bento cooking class Recipes (will be provided before the class) Exclusions:  Ingredients for creating your own kyaraben bento box Cooking tools Meeting Point and Meeting Time: This cooking class will be held online. I will send you the ZOOM for our class in advance. *Please note that the time listed is in JST (Japan Standard Time). Welcome to this online "traditional Japanese cuisine" cooking class.
In this class, you will learn about Dashi (Japanese soup stock), and a how to use it for your dishes.
You will also learn and how to make  Onigiri(Japanese rice ball) by yourself with some techniques.
Dashi is Japanese unique soup stock, which brings out the flavor of the ingredients. Dashi creates a taste called “umami”, and it’s the core of Japanese food.
Onigir is a famous Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylindrical shapes and often wrapped in Nori seaweed. The name "onigiri" comes from the verb "nigiru" which means "to press and shape with hands." Onigiri can be the essential food of the picnics, a satisfying little snack for Children, lunch for workers etc....

Hi! My name is Seiko. I am an instructor of Washocook. I live in Kobe, and I am originally from Okinawa. I lived California for 7 years and lived in UK for 3 years. I`m a mother of 5 kids now. I love to eat and cook, especially Japanese cuisine!
