The encounter with the character lunch box is when I saw one photograph made by my daughter's kindergarten mom friend. I had seen until then, a cute bento just a simple rice ball such as a bear or panda character bento, "chara-ben" was what shocked me.
The lunch box that the Mama friend made was a bento of an elaborate, cute character to eat. After that, I became a disciple of a friend who was good at chara-ben, and learned how to cook eggs and how to pack a bento.
I bought a book of the chara-ben by myself and studied it by myself while watching YouTube. In the past, it was a "brown" bento packed with only side dishes that my daughter could eat. However, after that, I challenged a variety of characters such as Hello Kitty, Mickey Mouse, Pikachu, "Mama! This time, please make Rilakkuma. I'll eat anything!”
I was so happy that my daughter could eat a bento without any likes and dislikes, and I am into making the chara-ben.
